The classic original Beatles studio albums have been re-mastered by a dedicated team of engineers at Abbey Road Studios in London over a four year period utilising state of the art recording technology alongside vintage studio equipment, carefully maintaining the authenticity and integrity of the original analogue recordings. The result of this painstaking process is the highest fidelity the Beatles catalogue has seen since its original release.
Within each CD's new packaging, booklets include detailed historical notes along with informative recording notes. For a limited period, each CD will also be embedded with a brief documentary film about the album. The newly produced mini-documentaries on the making of each album, directed by Bob Smeaton, are included as QuickTime files on each album. The documentaries contain archival footage, rare photographs and never-before-heard studio chat from The Beatles, offering a unique and very personal insight into the studio atmosphere.

Rank 'em how you like,
Rubber Soul is an undeniable pivot point in the Fab Four's varied discography no matter where, or how, you first heard it. The album was softened up in its original 12-song American edition to jibe with the Dylan/Byrds folk-rock sound, as well as squeeze money from the Parlophone catalog. The 14-song U.K. edition--the version now available on compact disc--is a different, more dynamic, and ultimately more accomplished achievement. So many classics: "Drive My Car" and "Nowhere Man" (both omitted from the U.S. edition) merge the early combustible Beatifics to a burgeoning studio consciousness; "The Word" can be read as a pre-psych warning shot; the sitar-laden "Norwegian Wood" and the evocative "Girl" (the latter written on the last night of the sessions) stand as turning points in John Lennon's oeuvre. George finally emerges too, with the McGuinn-ish "If I Needed Someone."

"A Unified Vision Of Music Expansion" 2010-08-29By
Dave Sigmon (Connecticut, USA)
If ever there was a record that had planted the seeds to the termination process of the Brill Building staff, this had to be the one. The Beatles became the titans of songwriting and entered new terrain with edgy songs that focused on the adult perspective. They took Dylan's cue and reflected their expanding consciousness with a lyrical freedom to be experienced by the listener. And this deeper sense of discovery generated its concept. They departed from their musical past and now lush acoustic instrumentation was predominant and the electric guitars were more subdued-sounding.
Rhythmic shifts still abounded but now there was a fullness of harmonies in which they had mastered their own style rather than show mere influence from their fifties rock and roll heroes. This was perhaps best evidenced on John's first spiritual vision, "The Word" and on George's unromantic "Think For Yourself", both undervalued classics. Paul's "I'm Looking Through You" was a surprisingly caustic view at romance fitting neatly into one of his strongest melodies. Even his "Michelle" displayed a bit of tension in its language barrier. But "Run For Your Life" was sheer torment.
The irreducible core of this record surrounded three of John's tracks which fused his poetry of actual experience into a folk-rock framework. "In My Life" was a fond observation of those he knew from his past and who still appeared to be relevant in his present, climaxing with his sublime falsetto near the song's end. With "Norwegian Wood" he admitted, albeit cryptically, that any halo he might have worn, had long since fallen off his head. George's sitar added to the bizarre on this classic of infidelity and possible retaliation. And my personal favorite, "Girl", was the most profound dissection of facets in his personal life at that moment. Here he took a hard look into the state of his first marriage, fantasized of this "other" woman whose strength would rescue him and attempted to contend with his opposition to Christianity. His plaintive voice was the connective tissue to all these complexities he was enduring.
This still stands as a quintessential landmark in the field of popular music. They had achieved compositional self-reliance with a unified vision of stretching their music, but starting here there would be a gradual change to their collective identity.
P.S. Though I'm basing this on the U.K. configuration which is perfect, I actually prefer the U.S. version. It coheres seamlessly as contemporary folk-rock. I love "I've Just Seen A Face" as the opening cut and the false intro to "I'm Looking Through You". The sneak that I am, this is the reason I didn't reference any of the songs on the U.K. only edition. So I'll say this, the 12-string guitar and the harmonies are breathtaking on George's "If I Needed Someone" and John's "Nowhere Man".
"The Beatles Rubber Soul CD" 2010-08-13By
StargazerThe Beatles Rubber Soul CD was attained through the Pepsi bottle rewards program. If you are a child of the 60s and 70s you grew up with the Beatles and although not all people are in love with them their merchandise certainly is rewarding and their music style was diversified over time. I love the Beatles and the definitely hold a tremendous marker in music history.

"Amazing album!" 2010-06-24By
Mariagiovanna KashemThe remastered Rubber Soul is amazing! You hear the voices and instruments so much better! The mini-documentary is also a great feature, because it includes clips of videos and the Beatles themselves talking about the album. The music is amazing, from "Nowhere man" to "Wait." Must have for any Beatles fan! The one setback, if you can call it that, is the packaging. Without the plastic case, it seems that the case will be worn in a few years. Hopefully not, but we'll see what happens.

S. AbdulThere are like 6 good songs on this album and 3 great ones. norwegian wood, if i needed someone, my life, nowhere man. The beatles are my favorite band ever. everyone raves about how good sgt. pepper is rubber soul is better it has more better songs than sgt. pepper so basically it is better imo. I have heard about 80 rock cd's in my time but the two i like the most are "rubber soul" and "dark side of the moon".
